Ep. 1 | Autism Parenting Support: Welcome to the Podcast

Ep. 1 | Autism Parenting Support: Welcome to the Autism Family Resource Podcast

Parenting a neurodivergent child comes with unique joys, challenges, and learning experiences. In this introductory episode, pediatric occupational therapist Brian Keene shares the story behind why the Autism Family Resource Podcast was created and the type of support families can expect moving forward.

Through years of working with children and families, Brian recognized that many parents were overwhelmed by complicated therapy recommendations and lengthy home programs. While these strategies were well-intentioned, they often didn’t fit naturally into everyday family life.

Instead, Brian discovered that small changes within daily routines often lead to meaningful progress for children and families.

This podcast was created to help bridge the gap between therapy recommendations and real life by providing short, practical conversations that parents can easily apply at home.

In This Episode We Discuss

• Why parenting neurodivergent children can feel overwhelming at times
• How complex therapy plans can be difficult to sustain at home
• Why small routine changes can create meaningful developmental progress
• The importance of neurodiversity-affirming support for children
• What topics the podcast will explore in future episodes

The Philosophy Behind the Podcast

A key message Brian emphasizes in this episode is that children do not need to be “fixed.”

Instead, families benefit most from tools and strategies that help children build skills, confidence, and independence while honoring their individual strengths and differences.

The Autism Family Resource Podcast was created with this perspective in mind. Each episode aims to provide guidance that is:

• practical
• respectful of neurodiversity
• supportive of both children and parents

Why This Podcast Matters for Families

Parents often receive large amounts of information after a diagnosis or therapy evaluation. Sorting through advice, resources, and recommendations can feel overwhelming.

This podcast was designed to simplify that process by providing short, actionable conversations that parents can listen to during their day while gaining insights that support their child’s development.
